Three Typical Applications of Ring Fiber Optics in Machine Vision
Oct 12, 2026
The core value of ring fiber optics is simple: 360-degree light output, eliminating shadows.
Single-direction lighting always casts shadows. Raised features create shadows, and algorithms mistake them for defects. Ring fiber optic light guides form a circle, emitting light from all directions simultaneously — the shadows cancel out.
Three typical applications:
Microscope illumination. Ring fiber optics mount around the objective lens, illuminating samples evenly from all directions. Biological sample observation, material analysis, electronic component inspection — wherever shadow-free, high-definition imaging is needed, ring fiber is standard.
PCB solder joint inspection. Solder joints and pins on circuit boards are densely packed, and single-direction lighting creates severe shadows. Ring fiber illuminates evenly from 360 degrees, revealing solder joint shape, position, and defects clearly.
Semiconductor wafer inspection. Wafer surfaces are mirror-grade reflective. Standard lighting produces either a completely dark or completely washed-out image. Ring fiber, combined with coaxial or dark-field configurations, makes micro-scratches and particles stand out.
